Sustainability has always been an article of faith

We are proud of what we have achieved so far, however, we recognize that the world in which we operate is constantly evolving and, thus, we need to appropriately adapt to the ongoing evolution in our thoughts and actions. Driving change to be able to adapt at the right pace is one of the critical success factors for our business. Operating responsibly at all levels of our organization is an integral part of who we are. Our focus is not simply on success and profit, but rather on the sustainable business objectives of our customers and the shared global environment in which we operate. We place an emphasis on making a positive difference at every stage of our value chain by innovating, partnering and embedding the principles of responsibility in the way we work. With our cement production capacity expanding from 1.2 million tonnes to 24 million tonnes, graduating us to one of the top five cement groups in India, we have also increased our focus on replacing conventional fuels and raw materials with alternative solutions, expanding our overall renewable energy portfolio, blended cements and investment in technology to reduce the impact on our planet.

While our cane crushing capacity increased to 27,500 tonnes crushed per day (TCD), we also focused on green power by increasing bagasse based co-generation capacity to 102 MW, improving our recovery rates and working with our suppliers to overcome price fluctuations and raw material availability. As an organization, we face many evolving sustainability challenges as well as numerous opportunities that may affect our business. To be able to strike a balance between risks and rewards, we have incorporated risk management framework at the core of our operations.

We try our best to make a significant economic contribution to society. We are an employer with over 6000 direct employees and many more contractors. Moreover, we focus on local communities wherever we operate and try to bring in economic value throughout our value chain. Through an empowerment driven workplace, we aim at unleashing the employee's potential. We invested in rural community engagement initiatives around the locations of our manufacturing presence, contributing to strengthening of the country's rural fabric.

With our focus on being a responsible organization, we decided this was the right time to take stock of our approach and consider where we need to evolve to ensure we are integrating social and environmental impacts and trends appropriately and effectively into the way we manage our business. We, therefore, identified material issues that are relevant for our cement and sugar operations as well as for our stakeholders to further increase our efforts in improving our performance. In conclusion, it was an important year of transition for Dalmia Bharat Group in our corporate responsibility and sustainable development efforts. We would like to thank all our stakeholders for their continued faith and support.
